CORUNNA COMMUNITY POLICING COMMITTEE
Corunna is located in St. Clair Township, in the County of Lambton in Southwestern Ontario Canada. We are at the extreme northwest corner of the Township, adjacent to the City of Sarnia boundary and on the west shore of the St. Clair River.
We are a small community of about 7,000 citizens. The residents of our community work, for the most part, in one of the petro chemical complexes in Canada's Chemical Valley. Some of the larger employers surrounding our community are: Shell Corunna Refinery, Ethyl Corporation, Dow Chemical of Canada, Nova St. Clair Site, Nova Corunna Site, Nova Moore Site, Woodbridge Foam, Basell, Ethyl Corporation, and Dupont Chemical of Canada.
OUR MANDATE:

The most recent accomplishments of The CORUNNA COMMUNITY POLICING COMMITTEE:
BE A NOSEY NEIGHBOUR !
One of the local initiatives started by the CORUNNA COMMUNITY POLICING Committee has been the "BE A NOSEY NEIGHBOUR ! campaign. With funding from Nova Chemicals the C.C.P. was able to produce fridge magnets, shown above, and distribute them to households in the Corunna area.
BICYCLE PATROLS
The CORUNNA COMMUNITY POLICING committee was also able to outfit the local Ontario Provincial Police detachment with bicycles for the bicycle patrols. Once again NOVA CHEMICALS funded the purchase of the specially equipped bicycles and the OPTIMIST CLUB of MOORE donated funds to purchase protective equipment for the officers on the bicycle patrol to wear.
SENIORS and FRAUD
Currently the CORUNNA COMMUNITY POLICING committee is having produced a magetic whiteboard with tips for seniors on how to avoid fraud. This project was possible because of the generous monetary donations made by SHELL CORUNNA REFINERY, the OPTIMIST CLUB OF MOORE, ROBINS DONUTS, CORUNNA LEGION BRANCH 447,and the CORUNNA & DISTRICT LIONS CLUB. These boards are being distributed and the recipients will be able to place them near a phone or on the refigerator.
NEIGHBOURHOOD WATCH
In the fall of 2003 we started an initiative to bring the NEIGHBOURHOOD WATCH program to our community. With the financial support of ONTARIO POWER GENERATION, DUPONT CANADA, and NOVA CHEMICALS and some determined individuals we were able to get this program up and running in one neighbourhood in our community.
Our objective is to get the program up and running and self sustaining in one neighbourhood at a time. We feel that in this way each area will be able to help the next to start up and overcome any obstacles.
We also need to thank NEIGHBOURHOOD WATCH of LONDON for their invaluable support during the start up of this program in Corunna.
We have had tremendous support from the community in the support of NEIGHBOURHOOD WATCH and feel that has largely contributed to it's success in Corunna.
